Case Study: Northern Gas & Power’s New Wellness-Focused HQ


AMH Workspace specified our Cashmir, Snowdon and Oregon Hyde collections in the new head office of one of the UK’s most progressive energy companies

Readers may well know that wellness and wellbeing are huge trends in work place design; work space providers and designers have been quick to understand that following 12 months of almost universal working from home, offices will never be quite the same again. In a recent survey by HR software company Personio, one in four employees in the UK said they would resign from their current job if they were forced to return to the office. As lockdowns ease this year, corporates will be expected to up their game in terms of work place design and amenities to attract employees back to office life.

Northern Gas & Power has been quick to understand this trend, having used periods of lockdown to move its HQ into an impressive four-storey (30,000 sq ft) space in the Riga building, a new development on Gateshead’s waterfront. Designed by long-time Agua collaborator, AMH Workspace, Northern Gas & Power’s new office is modern, bright and understated – filled with calming breakout areas, airy kitchens and informal spaces for collaborative working.

Central to this new office is the Feel Well Deli, a canteen that will cater to staff with an emphasis on fresh, healthy recipes. After work, the Deli will also offer fresh, nutritious meal boxes for staff who do not feel like cooking at home. It’s a smart move, and one that is characteristic of GPG, who own Northern Gas & Power, and who recently ranked above Google, Sage PLC and Sky Betting as the second best company for work-life balance in the UK, as judged by Glassdoor.

AMH specified three of our most popular ranges for use in the project. The use of Agua fabrics throughout the scheme helped us achieve that, with a mix of sumptuous Cashmir fabric in a range of tones, Snowdon and Oregon Hyde.”
