Can you talk me through the project? What was the idea for the project?
Fame Dentistry is a new dental practice in Glasgow, and the idea from the beginning was to create an environment that didn’t feel like a typical dental clinic.
We wanted patients to walk in and feel comfortable and relaxed, so the interior has much more of a hospitality feel. We used warm timber, soft neutral finishes, feature lighting, artwork and greenery to soften the clinical environment, while the deep blue connects the interior back to Fame Dentistry’s branding.
The waiting areas were particularly important because this is where patients spend time before their appointments. I wanted the furniture to feel comfortable and welcoming, but also quite elegant and tailored. The blue upholstered seating became one of the strongest elements within the overall design and helped give the space its identity.
Why did you choose Agua for the project and what fabrics did you require for the job?
For the seating, we specified Agua Nova in Bluebell. I wanted to introduce Fame’s signature blue into the interior, but I didn’t want the upholstery to feel too flat or overly corporate.
Nova Bluebell was a great choice because it has a beautiful depth of colour and a delicate herringbone pattern. From a distance it reads as this lovely rich blue, but when you get closer you notice the subtle texture and pattern. That little detail gives the furniture a much more refined feel, which worked perfectly with the concept.
At the same time, this is a busy dental practice, so the fabric couldn’t be selected purely for its appearance. We needed a contract-quality upholstery that could cope with regular use and the practical requirements of a healthcare environment. Agua gave us that balance between aesthetics, comfort and performance.
What is your experience of working with Agua? How does the team typically help you achieve your goals?
I’ve always had a really positive experience working with Agua, and a big part of that is the personal support I receive from Stephanie, our Agua representative. She is absolutely lovely to work with, friendly, approachable, incredibly helpful and always happy to assist when I’m looking for the right fabric for a project.
As a designer, I often start with a particular colour, texture or overall feel in mind, but it’s equally important that the fabric performs correctly for the environment it is being specified for. Stephanie understands that balance and is always able to guide me through the options, arrange samples and help me find something that works both aesthetically and practically.
For Fame Dentistry, Nova in Bluebell was exactly what I was looking for. The rich blue connected beautifully with Fame’s branding, while the delicate herringbone pattern gave the upholstery a subtle texture and a much more refined feel.
