Case Study: Morar Living at St Andrews
We sat down with Jenny Robertson, interior design at Morar Living, to chat about a new care home project in Scotland
What is Morar Living most known for, and what is your role in the team?
Morar Living Care Group has homes situated throughout Scotland and England, with more developments set to open in the near future. Morar Living offers a comprehensive range of care, including short-term to long-term care, residential care, nursing care, dementia care, respite care, palliative care, and end-of-life care. Not only do we offer a wonderful environment for our residents, but we also provide a home that residents cherish staying in. I’m Jenny, the Interior Designer for Morar Living, and I work on all elements of the interiors, from coordinating with the build through to designing and installing the furniture and spaces for the residents' day-to-day living.
Can you talk me through the St Andrews project? What was the idea for the project?
With the luxury of space in the St Andrews project we had the opportunity to focus on themes per floor for the communal spaces. The ground floor housed a generous bar and reception with a luxury wine vault and music room. The first floor allowed us to utilise the generous communal corridor as an old fashioned market street with the rooms off the corridor housing the shops shown from the street. For example, we had a train station imagery shown in the corridor, when you went through the station doors you’re then submerged into a train carriage experience. On the second floor we created a wonderfully feminine champagne and tea lounge with access to the generous roof terrace.
Why did you choose Agua for the project and what fabrics did you require for the job?
Agua has a wonderful selection of fabrics suitable for the care sector. They have a host of waterproof fabrics with anti-microbial protection that still look and feel like domestic fabrics. They are a far cry from the typical plastic fabrics we traditionally think about within a care home, which makes specifying within the Agua family really easy.
What is your experience of working with Agua? How does the team typically help you achieve your goals?
The team at Agua are always approachable and easy to work with. Their exceptional product knowledge means I have a quick and easy way to check suitability or stock. When I’m stuck or needing to re-specify, they are always willing to put a range of suggestions forward to help me make fast decisions.
Would you recommend Agua based on your experience?
Absolutely. The Agua binders are never far from my desk when I start scheming for a new project!
